(6 October 2009) Bob Shop, South Africa’s biggest auction site and online market place, is not only about trading. It is also about caring.

This site has always been ready to host auctions and sales for fund raising purposes. Many charities and non-profit organizations have found Bob Shop a good platform for increasing their visibility and filling their coffers, always in need of funds.

Currently, Bob Shop is hosting listings created by two non-profit organizations, Bird Life South Africa and Books Etc.

As part of its Save Our Seabirds week (12 – 18 October 2009), Bird Life South Africa (BLSA) decided to entrust the Bob Shop platform with selling ten photographs of sea birds. The photographs have been selected as the finalists of the BLSA photographic competition and are currently displayed in the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town. The proceeds from the Bob Shop auctions, which close on 14 October, will go towards raising money for future seabird research.

With six thousand members in forty bird clubs and branches throughout the country, BLSA is the only dedicated bird-conservation organisation in South Africa.

Books Etc regularly sells rare and valuable books on Bob Shop for the benefit of the Children’s Feeding Trust, which finances the feeding of about four thousand children in the Port Elizabeth region.

According to Veronica Nance from Books Etc, the exposure on Bob Shop made a big difference: “We have recorded the best-ever funding amounts in September for our bookshop section thanks to Bob Shop”, she says.

Since they registered on Bob Shop in June this year, Books Etc have sold 42 items. In that time, they have built an excellent reputation on the site, achieving a 100 per cent positive feedback rating from the buyers for the quality of their merchandise and the excellence of their service. At the moment, Books Etc has 56 books listed for sale on Bob Shop.
