Netbooks are compact, lighter, and relatively inexpensive laptops which usually come with smaller screens and keyboards and reduced computing power to accommodate the reduced size and lower price. Some popular Netbooks are:

Dell Inspiron Mini 10

Small though the Mini 10 may be, it still comes with a keyboard that is 92% of the size of a normal laptop keyboard, and a host of fun features. The Dell Inspiron Mini has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom Processor N450, and runs on Windows XP home edition. It is available in seven colours, is just over 1 in thick, and weighs only 1.7 kg. The bright 10.1-inch widescreen monitor offers seamless display with a 16:9 aspect ratio designed for optimal presentation of websites.

An optional optical disk drive allows the use of CDs and DVDs, and the HDMI port allows the user to connect the Netbook to an external monitor or TV for a larger screen size if required. The Mini 10 comes with 1GB of memory and a 160G, 2.5-inch, 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive.

The internal Wi-Fi connection as well as the optional Bluetooth lets you stay in touch even while on the go. The compact design does not come at the cost of battery life – the standard three-cell battery allows about four hours of usage, and it is possible to replace the three cell battery with a six cell version at a small extra charge for longer battery life.

Acer Aspire One D250

The AOD250 is lighter and thinner than the first 10-inch version of the Aspire One Netbooks,- the AOD150, because the six cell battery has been replaced with a three-cell one. The specifications on the processor, hard drive, and RAM are otherwise unchanged, but the new Aspire One's compact, more becoming design makes it feel considerably less like a budget product.
The AOD250 is available in a choice of Ruby Red, Diamond Black, Sapphire Blue, and Seashell White. The height of the Netbook is 1 in, and the 10.1-inch wide-screen has a standard resolution for a screen this size (1,024 x 600 pixels). The colours, text and icons are sharp.

The AOD250 runs on Windows XP Home SP3, and comes with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. The RAM is 1GB and the hard drive has a capacity of 160GB.
The common choice for the battery is between three and six cells; three cells are more compact but only last two to three hours, while six cells which are bulkier, can last around five hours.

The Acer Aspire One D250 is perfect for basic Web surfing and media and document use.

Sony Vaio Mini-W

Sony makes its first foray into the Netbook market with the VAIO Mini W Series. What sets its 10.1-inch screen a class apart from the competition is its 1366 x 768 pixel resolution with LED backlighting that results in considerably sharper, brighter images. The VAIO Mini W Series also allows simultaneous use of two windows.
This Netbook weighs just 1.2 kg, and is available in white, pink and brown. It comes with an Intel Atom N280 processor, 1024MB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Sony includes a three-cell battery as standard, which lasts for around four hours of light-use.  The battery life can be doubled to up to eight hours by replacing the standard battery with a six-cell extended-life battery.

Samsung N110

Samsung’s new N110 is internally similar to its popular predecessor, the Samsung NC10 in that it comes with a 1.6-GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, Windows XP Home, and a 160GB hard drive. The N110 however has an extended touchpad and a whopping seven hours of runtime with its new six cell battery. It is the same weight and size as the NC10 at 10.3 x 7.3 x 1.2 inches and under 1.3 kg, even with the higher-capacity six-cell battery.

The look is sleek and attractive with a glossy black cover, rounded edges, and a burgundy trim along the bottom edge of the chassis. The display on the N110 is a glossy, 10.2-inch, 1024 x 600-pixel, bright screen. The keyboard is 93 percent of a full-size keyboard, and has raised keys for comfortable typing. The audio is loud and clear enough to be able to make decent quality calls on Skype. An 802.11b/g Wi-Fi card is provided.

Asus EeePC1005HA

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA is part of Asus’s “Seashell” product line, with a design that is inspired by seashells. It measures 10.3 x 7 x 1.4 inches at its thickest point, and weighs less than 1.3 kg with a six cell battery and about 1.1 kg with a three cell battery. The Asus Eee PC 1005HA comes with a removable battery, a full sized VGA port and an access panel for upgrading the RAM.

The Netbook has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel glossy display which is bright and displays colours well indoors. The keyboard has large, comfortable keys. The Asus Eee PC 1005HA runs on Windows XP Home Edition, has 1GB of RAM, and comes with a 160GB hard drive. It has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor and the Intel Mobile 945GSE chipset with GMA 950 integrated graphics.

The battery life of the Netbook when using a six cell battery is exceptional at over six hours for heavy usage, extending to eight to ten hours for lighter usage.
