Valued at over R23,000 and made by designer Hendrik Vermeulen especially for the event, the dress modeled by the Western Cape Premier is to help raise funds for My Life Foundation
(2 March 2010) Fashion, politics and charity have come together in an auction currently open on bidorbuy.
On auction is a stunning dress designed for Western Cape Premier Helen Zille by Hendrik Vermeulen, one of South Africa’s most exciting young designers. All the proceeds from the online sale will go to My Life Foundation, an organization involved with marginalized youth.
Hendrik Vermeulen’s creation is a hand dyed silk chiffon evening dress lined in silk satin. It has a built-in corset in silk satin and the bust is decorated with draped silk chiffon, appliquéd corded lace and hand beading. The value of the dress is estimated at R23,800.
Western Cape Premier Helen Zille looked scintillating in the gown when she modeled it on 25 February at Camil Restaurant in Greenpoint, where My Life presented its Ubuntu Village concept to a group of invited guests and at the same time announced that the dress the Western Cape Premier was wearing will be auctioned on bidorbuy to raise funds for the organization.
The auction on bidorbuy opened on Saturday 26 February with the starting price of R1 and will close on Monday 8 March at 2:30 P. M. The dress is size 38, but Hendrik Vermeulen has agreed to adjust it by up to two sizes down.
South Africa’s largest online auction site and marketplace bidorbuy.co.za traditionally waives its usual success fee, which can be up to five percent, in cases when the seller is raising funds for a charity or a non-profit organization. “The Helen Zille dress designed by Hendrik Vermeulen auction will respect that tradition: the whole amount of the highest bid will go to My Life Foundation, with bidorbuy gladly forfeiting its cut for the service the site provides as a trading platform that brings sellers and buyers together”, says bidorbuy Managing Director Andy Higgins.
