How to Measure Yourself for Evening Dresses, Ball Gowns & Wedding Dresses

Use this guide to help you measure yourself for evening dresses, matric farewell dresses, debutant dress, ball gowns and bridal gowns to insure the perfect fit for all the beautiful dresses you buy on bidorbuy.co.za

In order to guarantee that any evening dress or ball gown or wedding dress that you buy on bidorbuy.co.za fits you perfectly, it is best to know your measurements.

Follow these Instructions:

The seller of the dress will be able to tell you the measurements of the dress and— if any alterations do need to be made—whether they would be possible with regard to the style and materials of the dress.

It is recommended that you do not measure yourself but rather that a friend or family member measures you.

When you are being measured it is very important that you hold a good posture: keep your back very straight, your shoulders down, your hips square and your bust pushed slightly forward. For all measurements you will have to stand and place your feet together and arms at your side in a natural position.

Bust:

Stand straight with your feet together and your arms at your sides.Roll the tape around the widest part of your back and the fullest part of your bust. The measuring tape needs to be parallel to the floor.

Waist:

Stand straight with your feet together and your arms at your sides. Roll the tape around the narrowest part of your torso. This is usually about 2 centimetres above your belly button. Again, keep the measuring tape parallel to the floor.

Hips:

Stand straight with your feet together and your arms at your sides. Roll the measuring tape around the largest part of your hips. Keep the measuring tape parallel to the floor.

Hollow to hem/floor (with shoes):

Stand straight with your feet together and your arms at your sides and wearing the shoes you will be wearing with the dress or at least shoes of the same heel height. Find the hollow of your neck is just above your collar bone and roll the measuring tape from there to where the hem of the dress hem must end. If a dress has a full skirt a few centimetres more will be added by the dress seamstress or maker to the amount of material used.

Now that you have your measurements, you can browse through bidorbuy's gorgeous formal dress collections or bridal gowns and dresses for weddings.
