The 10 Must-have Apps for iPhone Software 3.0

The Apple iPhone seems to have taken the world by storm and has loads of useful features as it stands on its own.

But developers are constantly adding to the enormous variety of add-on applications – or apps, as they are known – which can be added to your iPhone to make life that much more interesting. Here are the top 10 must-have apps for your iPhone running version 3.0 software.

If you are a movie lover, you are probably aware of IMDb (Internet Movie Database). Now you can install this free app and browse millions of pages dedicated to the world of movies right there on your iPhone. The app has three main functions: Movies, TV and People. These break down further into, for example, Coming Soon, Box Office Results and Born Today. There is also a useful keyword search facility.

Music lovers rejoice! With the Sonifi app installed on your iPhone, you can mix and remix music and even link to a friend via Bluetooth and remix songs together in real time. Four channels are available, covering bass, beats, synth/FX and melody and with FX such as Lo-Fi, High and Low pass filters and options including save, edit and rework you can develop an infinite number of variations.

Evernote is advertised as “your external brain” and this app really does help you to remember just about anything you need to on your iPhone. Evernote lets you remember anything you want by adding text notes, snapshots/photo notes or voice notes. All your saved notes are uploaded to the Evernote server and you can add titles, tags and descriptions to your notes so that you can search for them later.

Navigon Mobile Navigator:
By adding the Navigon mobile navigator app to your iPhone, you turn it into a complete navigation system. The app has all the features you would expect from a normal navigation system, including map views, street views, points of interest along your route and precise and clear voice announcements. One valuable feature is the ability to resume navigation after an incoming phone call.

DStv Guide:
As its name suggests, the DStv guide app gives you access to the TV guides for DStv channels. You get a seven-day schedule for all channels, together with extended program information. The listing screen displays the currently screening program, with a progress bar to indicate how much of the program remains.

The Documents app offers multiple Mobile Office applications in one. As well as being a document viewer that lets you browse Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint files, this app also contains a spreadsheet application, a text editor, a photo manager, a mobile hard drive, email, a sound recorder and a Google Docs connector.

Beejive 3.0 with Push:
If you’re a fan of instant messaging, then Beejive is for you. The app enables you to connect to your IM friends in real time on Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live, ICQ and others. The interface is remarkably similar to the iPhone native interface, so it’s easy to use.

Prowl Growl Client:
Prowl is the Growl client for the iPhone that enables notifications from your Mac or Windows computer to be sent to your iPhone. Imagine you are doing a large download to your computer or converting a large file. This app lets you know, on your iPhone, whenever your job is finished. You can set priority on notifications and can store notifications for up to 30 days.

Radio South Africa:
This app enables you to listen to a selection of over 50 South African radio stations on your iPhone, including Highveld Stereo 94.7, Classic FM 102.7 and many more. The simple screen display lists the available stations and the app has searching facilities and the ability to add a station to your favourites list..

Pocket Universe:
If your idea of heaven is to gaze up into the night sky, then you’ll love Pocket Universe. This app is an uncomplicated and user friendly astronomy application for even the most novice stargazer. As well as displaying constellations – with or without constellation lines or names – the app can also keep you updated with astronomy news from selected web sites and even includes an astronomy quiz to test your knowledge on cloudy nights.
