(20 July 2010) How would you like to rub shoulders with someone you read about in the newspapers, listen to on the radio or watch on TV? Thanks to the bidorbuy Celebrities for Charities auctions, you can. Simply place your winning bid to:

Spend a day on shoot with Riaan Garforth-Venter. The winning bidder will join the crew on the shoot of DIY with Riaan. Lunch and refreshments are included, as well as a photo moment with Riaan. The celebrated DIY guru, better known as “Die Nutsman”, is synonymous with creative ideas, DIY and beautiful homes. He is also famous for adding his wife’s surname to his own (his wife, Michelle Garforth-Venter did the same). Talk about emancipated men!

Meet and eat with Pieter-Dirk Uys. Pieter and his alter ego, Evita Bezuidenhout, have toured the world and won many awards; among others, Pieter won the South African prestigious Truth and Reconciliation Award, and Evita the International 2000 Living Legacy Award. The winning bidder will have the privilege to treat Pieter and Evita to a lunch in Evita SE Perron, an old railway station in Darling that Pieter converted into a cabaret venue.

Join Callie and Monique Strydom for lunch to celebrate their 10 years of freedom and find inspiration in their story of survival, hope and miracles. In 2000, while on a diving holiday in Malaysia, Callie and Monique were kidnapped by an Al Qaida terrorist and kept in captivity for four months. South Africa breathed a collective sigh of relief when the couple came back home, and the two of them went on to devote much of their time to charity work.

Have lunch with the most beautiful woman in the country, Miss South Africa 2010 Nicole Flint and be treated like a royalty during a two-night stay at the exclusive Palace Hotel in Sun City, courtesy of Sun International. Nicole has a heart of gold, a passion for helping others and is one of the most sought after celebrities in South Africa.

Meet and break bread with Mr Gossip himself, Gavin Prins, known for his scoop on the sex scandal at Oprah Winfrey's school and the notorious Joost video.  Gavin has mingled with Hollywood celebs like Charlize Theron, Oprah Winfrey and Celine Dion. He has been on CBS, CNN and SkyNews. Get first-hand news on the latest celebrity gossip and watch Gavin in action during a recording of the TV show “Tonge Los”.

Have lunch with 702’s John Robbie, the man who has interviewed many important people, from heads of government to sporting heroes, and never shunned asking the difficult questions. That earned him the reputation of being hard-hitting, while remaining fair and honest. The winning bidder will also get to visit John during his early morning show in a 702 studio.

Meet the youngest Mr. South Africa, attorney-at-law and self-proclaimed water baby Denver Burns, the man who, among other good deeds, has initiated a swim clinic to help underprivileged children learn how to swim. The winning bidder will also get to stay on the Natal South Coast and to go for a dive with sharks on the famous Protea Banks.

What unites these seven very different celebrities is their involvement with charities and community programmes. All the proceeds from these auctions are for the benefit of participating charities, Papillon Foundation and Matla a Bana; bidorbuy will waive its usual selling commission, which can be up to five percent.

Last year, celebrities raised over R56,000 for charities by auctioning off their time on bidorbuy.

“We expect that the half a million people-strong bidorbuy community of registered users will make this, 2010 Celebrities for Charities event a memorable one too”, says bidorbuy CEO Jaco Jonker. “The auctions are open from 20 to 30 July. We call on all bidders to show their generosity, to place a bid for their favourite celebrity and in that way help raise much needed funds for worthy causes.”

“The Celebrities for Charities event is an open one and charities and celebrities are most welcome to join in even at this late date”, adds Jonker.
