Pokerfaced, Lady  Gaga, on the Edge of Glory, Singing Her Way through Paparazzi Frenzy

You can love her or hate her, but there’s no ignoring her. If you’ve recently discovered Lady Gaga and her music, you're probably curious about this force of nature who’s taking the world by storm. Here’s more about the inimitable Lady Gaga.

Who’s that girl?

Born in 1986 as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Lady Gaga which is her stage name learnt how to play the piano at four and composed her first piano ballade at 13! She gave up the drama/dance programme as a student at New York University to focus on her music. Gradually, she became popular in New York City’s club scene and was soon discovered and awarded her first recording contract.

Hit Singles, Albums and Video: Lady Gaga’s creative genius has led to numerous chartbusting hit singles, albums, and stunning videos. So far, she has released three albums: The Fame (2008, with the global phenomenon Poker Face and Just Dance), The Fame Monster (hit singles include Bad Romance, Alejandro and Telephone) and most recently Born This Way (with singles such as The Edge of Glory, Judas and You and I).

In just three years, Lady Gaga has managed to garner 5 Grammys and sell 51 million singles and 13 million copies of her albums worldwide. She is also ranked on the Time 100 list of the most influential people on the planet. One of the most popular musical artistes of all time, Lady Gaga is a philanthropist and human rights advocate as well.

Lady Gaga’s musical influences include artistes such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Freddie Mercury, John Lennon and The Scissor Sisters among others.

She likes to shock it, shock it!

Shocking people has become somewhat of a habit with Lady Gaga, especially with her fashion choices. Take the raw meat dress she wore to the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010, which according to her was meant as a symbol for standing up for one’s rights.

Earlier this year, Lady Gaga stunned the world again with her entry during her Grammy performance. To present her single, Born This Way, the controversial singer seemingly hatched from an ‘egg’ and emerged wearing a yolk-coloured outfit.

Most recently, she opened the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards with her single You and I, as Joe Calderone, her über-male alter ego, something of a cross between Prince and Bruno Mars!

Lady Gaga’s musical genre is a mix of pop and dance but she believes in mashing multiple genres in her songs. Her best music videos include Telephone, Paparazzi, Bad Romance and Beautiful Dirty Rich. Have a look at the videos and see if you agree!
