Here’s a shortlist of some of Hollywood’s best comedians, a bright, multi-faceted bunch who know just how to tickle your funny bone at the movies!

 

Emma Stone

Born to act, that’s Emma Stone, who began performing as an 11-year-old on stage in Phoenix, Arizona. At 15, she persuaded her parents that acting was her chosen career and moved to LA. Beginning with TV shows, Emma debuted on the big screen with Superbad (2007). A lead role in the teen comedy Easy A (2010) won her a Golden Globe nomination. More comedy films followed, Crazy Stupid Love, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and Friends with Benefits. Talented Emma has also starred in the sci-fi flick Zombieland and Oscar-award winning movie The Help. Look out for Emma Stone in The Amazing Spiderman 2, Gangster Squad and Movie 43.

 

Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel comes from a showbiz family and has quite a following for her quirky, deadpan brand of humour. Her first lead role, as a sexually adventurous 18-year-old in All the Real Girls was critically acclaimed. The comedy Elf (2003) was a huge box-office success. Other comedies followed, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and American Dad. Yes Man, a rom-com with Jim Carrey, was a hit film. She played the lead in the Golden Globe nominated 500 Days of Summer (2009). Zooey currently stars in the TV comedy series New Girl for which she has won several awards, with an Emmy on the cards.

 

Kristen Wiig

New York born Kristen Wiig discovered her talent for acting in college and has since made a career out of brilliant, memorable comedy roles on TV and films. Following her Hollywood debut in Knocked Up (2007) she starred in Whip It, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and a voice role in the animation film Despicable Me. Kristen starred in and co-wrote the 2011 hit Bridesmaids, which earned Golden Globe and Oscar nominations. Watch out for Kristen Wiig in the forthcoming remake of the O. Henry classic, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

 

Seth Rogen

Canada born Seth Rogen began doing stand-up comedy as a teenager. At 16, with both his parents out of work, Seth began working in television comedies in Los Angeles, debuting in Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks (1999). Seth’s breakthrough moment came with Knocked Up in 2007, a comic drama also produced by Apatow. He has done voice roles in several animation films like Shrek the Third and the Kung-fu Panda films. Seth’s forthcoming films, The Guilt Trip (with Barbra Streisand) and For a Good Time, Call…

Seth has co-written the under-production action comedy, The Apocalypse. He will also co-direct and act in this film.
