Home Made Face Masks

If expensive beauty products are burning a hole through your designer wallet, take a look inside your kitchen cabinets! Believe it or not, your kitchen is a treasure trove of natural ingredients that, when made into a nourishing face mask, can work wonders for your skin irrespective of skin type.

(Note: For all following face mask recipes, the general rule is to leave them on for about 10-15 minutes or until you start to feel them dry up. Then rinse off with lukewarm water.)

Homemade Face Masks for Normal Skin

Even if you don’t have any major issues with your skin (lucky you!), it is a good idea to apply face masks once a week. Face masks increase blood circulation, draw out impurities and detox your skin for a healthy and supple glow. Choose from the following recipes for normal skin face masks:

Egg white face mask:Whisk one egg white with one tbsp of plain yogurt and a few drops of olive oil.
Oatmeal face mask:Mix 1 tbsp oatmeal (fine ground), a few drops of honey, and 1 tbsp yogurt.
Clay face mask: Mix 1.5 tsp of clay (green or white), 1.5 tsp of aloe vera gel, and a few drops of pure rosewater or glycerine.

Homemade Face Masks for Dry Skin

Avocado face mask:Mash one ripe avocado with 1 egg white and a few drops of olive oil.
Banana face mask:Mash a ripe banana with 2 tsp of honey and ¼ cup of plain yogurt.
Oil face mask:Mix oil of lavender/coconut/olive/almond/apricot kernel with a bit of honey or Shea butter.

Homemade Face Masks for Oily or Acne Skin

Strawberry face mask:Mix ¼ cup fresh strawberries with yogurt.
Green clay face mask:Mix 2 tsp of green clay with the essential oils of grapefruit and juniper to form a paste.
Baking soda face mask:Combine baking soda with water to form a thick paste. Focus on blackhead-prone areas.

Homemade Face Masks for Mature Skin

Cream face mask:Mix together ¼ cup heavy cream, 1.5 tsp baking soda and a few drops of coconut oil in a small pan over low heat. Let it cool and then add honey before application.
Egg white face mask:Combine 1 egg white with ¼ cup powdered milk and avocado oil.
Sugar face mask:Melt 1 tbsp sugar in 1.5 tbsp tepid water and massage the mixture gently on your face.

Homemade face masks made of natural ingredients are excellent for your skin. They don’t contain harsh chemicals, are full of skin-loving nutrients and are incredibly easy to make. Think of all the money you’ll be saving on beauty supplies that you can now splurge on other goodies!
