Games Are Free to Try

There has been a wide range of video gaming systems seeking to gain a market edge over the years since it became popular to immerse oneself in imaginary worlds and take on superhero qualities as an escape from the realities of modern living.

The early gaming systems which I fondly recall, the Intellivision console with its blocky graphics and somewhat limited audio squawks, were certainly primitive when you look at the Sony Playstation, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii systems of today.

But now a new player is set to enter the market, the Ouya Gaming System. The system consists of a reasonably priced console and games. And the difference is that you can test-drive the games.

his makes Ouya unique in the world of video gaming systems. Their games are free to download and try before you buy. Because the games are downloadable, there are no discs or cartridges to get lost or damaged and you only need to pay for a game when you’re absolutely satisfied with it.

The Ouya gaming system connects to your TV set and supports 1080p HD picture quality, a far cry indeed from the Intellivision. Not only can you play games, but you can also stream TV shows, movies and music via the Ouya system.

So what do you get for your money?

The Ouya is the world’s first totally open source operating games system console. Based around an NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad Core processor, with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal flash memory (which can be expanded via the USB 2.0 port), the console also has WiFi, Bluetooth and Ethernet connectivity and a micro USB port in a compact 75mm x 75mm x 82mm sand blasted aluminium and plastic case.

The controller is equally aesthetically pleasing and contains two analogue control sticks, eight action buttons, a D pad, a touchpad and a system button, with Bluetooth connectivity in a package that weighs in at just 275g.

A major plus with the Ouya gaming system is that the open source operating system enables you to develop your own games by downloading the free Ouya Development Kit for creating games. So not only will you have access to games developed by the over 8,000 registered developers over a wide range of genres such as action, adventure and role playing, you can also join the community and create your own masterpiece.

The Ouya gaming system is set to launch in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on 25 June, 2013, with other markets following soon after.

So if you fancy your gaming experience in 1080p HD on the big screen, or you want to hone your game development skills, check out the Ouya gaming system!
