Justin Bieber Vest Sold on bidorbuy for R32,600

(24 June 2013) An unusual auction was finalised mid-morning on Friday 21 June 2013 on South African online marketplace www.bidorbuy.co.za.

On auction was the framed vest Justin Bieber wore at the Cape Town concert on May 8, 2013, together with the drumsticks he used on stage. “These extremely valuable items (...) have the Biebmeister's actual DNA on them”, the seller, 2oceansvibe, had stated in the listing.

Perhaps the “Bieber DNA” accounted for the fact that the winning bidder was ready to pay R32,600 for this piece of music memorabilia.

The auction was open from 31 May until 21 Jun 2013. During that time, it attracted 10,881 visits and 192 bids placed by 11 bidders.

The winning bid hovered around the R10,000 mark, which was about the amount the seller expected to make, until the very last day. Then, from the early morning on Friday 21 June, the bidding war broke out. Soon, only two bidders were left. In the last thirty minutes of the auction, the two of them placed as many as 56 bids, fighting it out all the way to the final amount of R32,600.

“We knew that this auction would attract bidders, but we did not expect the bids to go that high”, says bidorbuy CEO Jaco Jonker and adds: “It goes to show that there are things one cannot put a price on”.
