(22 March 2016) A once-in-a-lifetime set of auctions is underway on South African online marketplace www.bobshop.co.za.
The Vodacom Blue Bulls are auctioning off 23 pink jerseys signed by the players, with all the proceeds going to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
This is part of the Vodacom Blue Bulls commitment to raise funds for the purchase of a Mobile Health Clinic for CANSA. The Clinic will provide cancer education and information to help reduce the cancer risk, as well as cancer screening and early detection programmes.
Each of the 23 players will sign the pink jersey he wears in the match with Toyota Cheetahs on Saturday 2 April 2016, in the 5th round of the Vodacom Super Rugby. The game will take place at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, the home of the Bulls.
That means that bidders on Bob Shop will not know in advance whose signature a specific jersey will bear. They will bid on jersey number 1, jersey number 2, and so on. It will be known who will wear a specific jersey only when the players are announced before the game. Of course, rugby supporters will be able to make a reasonably good guess!
“The 23 signed Vodacom Bulls pink jersey auctions will surely attract both bidders who are passionate about rugby and bidders who want to do their bit to help the South African cancer association”, says Bob Shop CEO Jaco Jonker, adding that Bob Shop traditionally waives their usual selling commission in all instances when the proceeds are earmarked for a charity or a non-profit organisation.
The 23 pink jersey auctions end on 5 April at 3PM. The winning bidders may opt to collect their signed jersey from the Loftus stadium at a pre-arranged time for a chance to meet with the Vodacom Bulls players.
