Win R40,000 in Prizes in Online Entrepreneurs Competition

(4 April 2006) Do you have an innovative online business idea? Do you consider the online marketplace your playground? Have you always wanted to start your own online company, but do not have the necessary support? Enter the bidorbuy/Gauteng Business online entrepreneur competition and turn this dream into reality!

Being an entrepreneur himself, Andy Higgins, managing director at bidorbuy, understands the difficulties involved in starting a business. As such, the company, in association with Gauteng Business, is launching an online competition - aimed at assisting South African online entrepreneurs to realise their dreams of starting a business.

"This competition is an inspiring means of bringing innovative ideas within the online industry to fruition" says Higgins. "The purpose of this initiative is to encourage the development and start-up of online businesses in our community to further the creation of jobs. The competition is open to anyone with an innovative online business idea; however, the winner will be decided based on the idea that is most likely to succeed."

The competition is supported by respected industry leaders and experts, which include media partner and local SME-read, Gauteng Business, Internet doyen Arthur Goldstuck, who will also participate on the judging panel, as well as respected journalist and consultant, Lynda Gibson of consulting company, Core Concepts. The Online Publishers' Association (OPA) also confirmed their support of the competition by endorsing the initiative.

The winner, who will be selected based on the online business idea that is most likely to succeed, will receive the following prizes:

  • Advertising space on the bidorbuy.co.za Web site worth R10 000
  • Advertising space in Gauteng Business worth R10 000, as well as a profile interview
