This is a very fine and rare early 20th century Watercolor (actually Gouache, or as it known in this country Poster Paint) and is painted on paper.
It is signed lower right R. Rappini and on the lower left is written the title of the painting ON THE NILE'.
Vittorio Rappini is well known and listed 20th century Italian artist. He was born in 1877 and died in 1939. His full name is Roger Rappeau Vittorio Rappini hence the signature showing his first initial - R. The painting comes with beautiful detail and excellent workmanship. It comes with an original black wooden frame too. It is glazed with clear glass. The back is still in a fine condition, even though it must have been framed some 80 to 90 years ago.
It measures with frame 49.5cm x 41cm. The painting itself measures 37 cm x 29 cm. The frame is 6,5cm wide. Rappinis works are often sold in major auction houses in London such as Christies, Sotheby and Bonhams of Bond Street. e.g. BONHAM's Sale 13803 - Exploration, Travel & Topographical Pictures, 9 May 2006 New Bond Street, lot 128 Vittorio Rappini (Italian, 1877-1939) A carpet seller 33 x 23.5 cm. (13 x 9 1/4 in.) sold for £2,200 GBP plus Premium and tax. Bonhams also sold another Carpet Seller - Tunis, on 5 December 2007 for £1700 GBP plus Premium and tax. I see that on ebay.com now there is a Buy it Now Rappini of Mount Carmel offered for $2250. This original painting is offered at a substantial discount to that of the overseas market.
