Carrying his special passengers and a big birthday cake Thomas sets off, but the valley has been ploughed into mud. Thomas has another idea, the Scottish Castle! But the castle is closed for redecoration. Thomas tries but fails to come up with another idea, so Sir Topham cancels the picnic. Back at the sheds, Thomas realizes that he still had Sir Topham's mother's cake! Percy's blocked whistle suddenly gives Thomas another special idea. Sir Topham and his mother are summoned to Knapford Station where they can't believe their eyes! Thomas has arranged for a big party, and the engines blow their whistles to play 'Happy Birthday to you'. Sir Topham's mother is delighted. And Sir Topham declares the party Thomas's best idea yet! Tuneful Toots: Rusty thinks her two-tone horn is very tuneful, but not all the other engines agree. Sir Topham is due to visit the narrow gauge railway and a brass band concert is arranged. Before the concert Rusty gives the band a tour of the hills. But she is so excited, that she loses track of time and half- way across a lake, she runs out of diesel-oil! Everyone wonders where Rusty has got to, and the band worry about missing the concert. Rusty feels terrible. Until she has an idea! She tells the band to play loudly while she toots her horn! The music echoes down the valley to the engine yard where everyone can hear. Sir Topham, Mr Percival and the other engines puff up the track where the band play their concert - as the sun sets - accompanied by Rusty's Tuneful Toots! Flour Power: It's Halloween and Thomas must work with Devious Diesel to get the island's flour ready for the morning. On the way to the flour mill, Diesel points out the scary things along the way. This frightens Thomas. At the mill Thomas decides to teach Diesel a lesson and covers himself with flour. Diesel thinks Thomas is a ghost and speeds away as fast as he can, leaving Thomas working all alone. This makes the work longer, but on his return journey Thomas sees that the scary things Diesel pointed out weren't scary at all. When Thomas arrives at the bakery, Diesel is still convinced that Thomas was a ghost engine. Sir Topham points out the truth to Diesel and declares Thomas a Really Useful Engine!
