There is a graphic description of a successful hunt, almost entiely under native direction, in the Kivu region of the Congo - a hunt which yielded the most sought-after prize without harm of onjury to either man or beast. there ae recollections of the strange women he has met, who took readily to the life of the jungle and who successfully hunted all the most dangerous game animals in the African bush. The Law of the Jungle, in its application to the Lion, is truthfully recorded fom observations made during a period of more than thirty years; and Mr Burger shows that the King of the Beasts, in spite of his awesome reputation and dominant character, is yet one of the most vulnerable beasts in the gim struggle fo survival.

Finally, the reader joins the author around the campfires at night, where the adventures, not only of that day, but of many other days, are passed in review. And it is round this campfire, deep in the heat of the forest, that two famous musicians also fall in with the company under dramataic circumstances.

The narrative covers a wide area, stretching from the Congo forest to the Abyssinian border, and each country conrtibutes its quota of thills and exciting adventures."
