Antique 18th Century genuine Dutch Delft Tile

Although tin-glazed pottery production began in the Netherlands at Antwerp already in the early 1500's, it was not until the mid 17th Century that the well-known blue 'Delft' tiles came into their own. These earlier tiles became the rage and it was not until another hundred years had passed did they have any competition. Even then, they improved their quality by introducing a lead glaze known as "Kwaart" which produced a tile with a better, more brilliant finish.
But, although the town of Delft became synonymous with the 'blue Delft" most production actually took place in Rotterdam and Friesland. I suspect that the above tile may have originated in Friesland as it shows a typical coarse, white, grainy base. Being just under 1cm thick, this suggests that is is more likely from the mid to late 18th century, earlier tiles being around 1.3 cm thick.
The above tile is in good condition, considering it's age. There are a few chips on the edges, most likely from its removal from some ancient wall, and a larger chip seen at the top right-hand side of the tile. However, this does not detract from the overall design. All in all, it is a typical example of a genuine Dutch 'Delft" tile. Measurements are approximately 12.80cm x 12.80cm x 0.80 cm
