This is something really unique! The above artefact was found in the district of Melton, East Midlands, Britain and was described by the museum as a 'harness mount, Medieval period, C1200-C1500" A copy of the museum report can be found on http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/483592 I will also enclose a copy of the report to the buyer
The exact description states -
"Medieval copper alloy and gold object, 63mm long, 29mm wide and 10mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 45.83 grams. The object consists of a tapering circular sectioned hollow shaft which terminates in a wide spherical base with a further spherical knop. It has ribbon like attachments, which are damaged, one has incised decoration resembling a herringbone pattern. These attachments may have formed some sort of handle or suspension arms? The object has been heavily gilded all over, but is very corroded, and, clearly not complete. The object is very similar to NLM-5AFB72, but that example terminates in a bird motif, rather than the sphere on this example."
This is a really unique piece, dating back to a relatively unknown period in British history
