| DESCRIPTION | A large ORIGINAL VICTORIAN OIL PAINTING which depicts AN EUROPEAN MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE WITH A RIVER AND WATERFALL painted by W COLLINS. The painting is done on artist board (treated cardboard) and it is still framed in the original very attractive molded and gilded wooden frame. The artist has signed the artwork at bottom right and the artwork is not dated, but I would say that the painting dates from the late 19th century. The artwork is large and heavy and measures 730 x 570 mm in the frame and the artwork alone measures 530 x 375 mm. You can see the painting as it is sold in the image above. | CONDITION | The paint on this artwork has several faults. There is some paint loss, scratching, cracking of pigment etc. The artwork is also loose in the frame and the original paper backing is largely absent. Whilst the painting could be hung as is, it really requires quite extensive restoration. The frame is in relatively good condition with only minor chipping in places and somewhat loose corners. No restoration of this painting has been attempted and it is still as painted and with the deterioration and wear of over a century present. Please have a good look at all images accompanying this listing to get a good idea of the condition of the painting. |
A nice original Victorian painting which will look really good in the right setting, especially if restored. It has a really beautiful frame which has lovely patination of the gilt and this item is worth buying for the frame alone. PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE ANOTHER PAINTING BY THE SAME ARTIST ON THIS CRAZY WEDNESDAY AUCTION WHICH IS EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE AND IS ALSO FRAMED EXACTLY THE SAME.
