DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION
DESCRIPTIONA large original oil painting by the late Internationally acclaimed French wildlife artist Maurice Fievet. It depicts a very interesting scene seen anually in the Namib dessert - large flocks of Pelicans settling on the water pans after rains. The painting is done on artist board (treated canvass over a hardboard). It is framed and measures 68 cm x 1 meter in the frame and 56 x 87 cm unframed. The artist signed the painting at the bottom right corner. The artwork is not dated, but from the style of the frame and knowledge of the artists period of artistic activity in Southern Africa we can deduce that it was probably painted in the early 1960s. You can see the painting as it is sold here in the image above. For more details see the images which follow.
CONDITIONThe artwork itself is still in good condition with the colours bright and true. There is, however, some damage to the frame which can be seen on the last image below. To be very presentable, the frame will probably have to be restored or the artwork re - framed.
NOTES
A beautiful painting depicting a lovely SWA / Namibian scene. The artist was an Internationally acclaimed wildlife artist whose work appeared in the National Geographic Magazine and other publications on a number of occasions and who also designed postage stamps and wildlife conservation posters for a number of African countries. He was French, but lived in the Congo for a decade and also in South - and Southern Africa for periods of time. His works have been sold Internationally on auctions at high prices and he is listed on Internet art sites such as Artprice. This work is a good investment and is, at the same time, a very decorative wildlife painting.
