DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION
DESCRIPTIONThis is a medium sized original oil painting painted by the listed and well known deceased South African artist SIMON MOROKE LEKGETHO (1929 - 1986). The painting is done on artist board (fine treated canvass on hardboard) and it is still framed in the original 1960s frame. The artist has signed the artwork at bottom left and also dated it 1966. The artwork depicts a Bushman painting of Bushmen hunting Eland. This painting measures 460 x 510 mm in the frame and the artwork alone measures 300 x 350 mm. You can see the painting as it is sold in the image above. There are four more images and further particulars below. Please have a look at them and ask a question if there is anything you are unsure about.
CONDITIONBoth the artwork and frame are in good condition and it can be hung as is. I have left the painting framed in it's original 1960s frame which has a few marks and nicks because I do not believe in removing the original period frame from an artwork.
NOTES
This painting is a good investment piece and I believe that the work of the early South African Black artists is still much undervalued. This painting of Simon Lekgetho depicts one of the most popular subjects painted by him (depictions of rock art). It is offered here at a very reasonable price. Potential buyers are advised to research the artist and his works on the internet.
