Edward Fairly Stuart Graham Cloete was a South African novelist, essayist, biographer and short story writer. This is his acclaimed account of his early life. He recounts the Paris of La Belle Epoque, school in England, and WWI service with the Yorkshire Light Infantry and the Coldstream Guards on the Western Front, where he was twice wounded.
