Eighty Million National and Provincial ballots were printed in the United Kingdom by the South Africa Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

• The ballot papers were bound in books of one hundred stapled and each has a unique serial number printed in the upper left margin.
• Each ballot has the IEC watermark in the background.
• Each ballot has voting instructions in eleven languages: English, Sotho, Swazi, Tsonga, Tswana, Ndebele , Afrikaans, North Sotho, Venda, Xhosa and Zulu
• National Ballots are 200mm x 450mm and suitable for framing.
• The National ballot has nineteen political parties listed.
• The ballots used in the election had sticker of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) attached at the bottom. The IFP entered the electoral process late, after the ballots had been printed. Therefore stickers had to be made and attached.
• Nearly 20 million of the estimated 21.7 million South Africans who were eligible to vote, participated in the election.
