1907 Pattern Lithgow Bayonet 1942 – SAP SA Police Stunning Example Factory Sharpened Only
S.A.P. Bayonet, Leather Scabbard and Leather Frog. This S.A.P. (SA Police) 1907 Pattern Bayonet was manufactured in Australia at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory (S.A.F.) in New South Wales. It was manufactured and dated April 1942. This would make it one of the last Bayonets manufactured at Lithgow S.A.F. before production was moved to Orange Arsenal in the Orange State, Australia. Research suggests that the grips are Coachwood and were manufactured by Slazenger hence they are stamped “SLAZ42”.
The Bayonet carries the markings on the ‘Blued’ blade near the crossgaurd:

All metal components are ‘Blued’. S.A.P. is stamped on one side only of both the grip and pommel.
CONDITION: This is a stunning bayonet in excellent condition. The leather scabbard and frog are also in excellent condition besides having some scratches/wear but nothing major. The fullered blade appears to have never been used or sharpened with the edge still being the original factory sharpened edge. The press stud works perfectly and the wooden grips have no cracks or damage besides some wear. The following markings are not very clear but are there: MA marking above 1907, the “1” in 1907 and the “SLAZ42” stamps on the grips. The rest of the markings are very clear. All in all a really stunning bayonet.
