OLD PAIR OF ORIENTAL CARVED PANELS

Eye catching hand carved pieces - refurbished

The carvings were originally stained black and had many layers of old, thick varnish hiding the exquisite detail.
They were, painstakingly, lightly sandblasted to remove the layers of varnish and stain, creating a weathered look.
To seal and protect the wood, they were treated with 3 layers of Danish oil, a permanent oil based coating that really brought out the colour.
Danish oil dries like varnish and is hard wearing, waterproof and can be varnished over. It does not need to be re-applied periodically like other oils.
The panels measure 36cm x 30cm and this offer is for both the panels as pictured in the first image.
These are not modern, mass produced pieces and judging by the technique and the small differences in the two panels, they were clearly hand carved, most likely of Chinese origin.
Exact age and origin is however not known for a fact, so please have a look at the images to verify.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
