LARGE LAPIS LAZULI CABOCHON RING IN STERLING SILVER WITH DECORATIVE DIE-CUT DETAIL
Lapis Lazuli is one of the most fascinating of all gemstones. One of its immediately recognisable traits is its glorious deep blue colour. Interestingly, the ancient Greeks and Romans called it sapphirus. It was only in Middle Ages that it became "lapis lazuli", which is Latin for "blue stone". It is a stone that was particularly beloved during the Egyptian times - particularly associated with the pharoes.
The other fascinating physical trait is the gold dust characteristic. This comes from inclusions of pyrite or white calcite. In this piece you can spot the pyrite inclusions around the outside of the stone. Have a look at the photographs!
This lovely ring is quite large (it weighs in at 6,6 grams) and features a single domes cabochon lapis lazuli stone. The ring itself is crafted out of sterling silver and has nice decorative "die-cuts" along the shoulders.
