| DESCRIPTION | What a lovely antique edition of SHAKESPEARE'S WORKS this is! It is the COLLINS EDITION published c1910. It contains complete works of William Shakespeare (the plays and the poetry). In addition to the writings of Shakespeare there is also an essay on the Bart, a biographical introduction, an index to all the characters and the plays they appear in and a glossary to all the plays and poems. The cherry on top (and something which is seldom found in any of Shakespeare's works) are the 61 PHOTOGRAPHIC ILLUSTRATIONS TAKEN FROM PRODUCTIONS OF SHAKESPEARE'S PLAYS. The book is beautifully bound in navy blue cloth with impressed writing and decoration in gilt on the front board and the spine. It has 1312 pages, a frontispiece of Shakespeare and the top page edges are gilded. The image above shows the front board and spine of the book and also an image of Shakespeare taken from the frontispiece and put onto the front board as a collage. In 1910 books had no dust wrappers and the cloth bound boards you see in the image is thus the complete outside of the book. 5 More images below further illustrate the book. |
| CONDITION | The book is in good condition. It lacks a rear free end paper, which hardly distracts from it and there is a name and address written in ink on the front free end paper which also does not distract from this lovely book, but rather adds to it's antiquity and gives it some provenance. |
