THIS INCREDIBLY RARE VINTAGE "KING EDWARD VIII" 1937 ROYAL CORONATION PORCELAIN LIDDED SWEETS BOWL WAS SUPPOSED TO COMMEMORATE THE CROWING OF THE KING ON THE 12th MAY 1937, BUT HE ABDICATED IN DECEMBER 1936. BECAUSE MEMORABILIA WAS SHIPPED BY BOAT IN THOSE YEARS, MUCH OF THE COMMEMORATIVE MEMORABILIA HAS BEEN MADE IN 1936 AND SHIPPED TO THE BRITISH COLONIES (INDIA, SOUTH AFRICA, CANADA, NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA) PRIOR TO THE ACTUAL EVENT. IT SHOWS HIS CORONATION WHICH IN FACT NEVER TOOK PLACE. HIS BROTHER, KING GEORGE VI WAS ANOINTED KING IN HIS PLACE ON 12th MAY 1937. THERE ARE NO CHIPS OR CRACKS IN THE BOWL AND THERE IS MINIMAL CRAZING.

FROM THE INTERNET: "Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972) was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, from 20 January 1936 until his abdication on 11 December 1936. Edward was the eldest son of King George V and Queen Mary. He was created Prince of Wales on his sixteenth birthday, nine weeks after his father succeeded his own father, Edward VII, as King. As a young man, he served in the British Armed Forces during the First World War and undertook several overseas tours on behalf of his father".
