Family: Iridaceae Watsonia is a genus of plants in the Iridaceae family native to South Africa. The genus is named after Sir William Watson, a British botanist. There are 52 species in southern Africa; all are perennial herbs growing from corms and producing erect spikes of showy flowers, and are adapted to a mediterranean-type climate. Watsonia confusa is a South African endemic species from the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces. It grows from 50cm to 150cm tall with three to four pale to bluish-green leaves that have thickened margins. During summer this summer-growing species bears pink flowers.
