One of the Original Cast Bronze Plaques of Paul Kruger on Wooden Mounting.

The bronze plaque measures 23 cm x 15 cm approximately.  With the wooden mounting it measures 30 cm x 20 cm approximately.  The bust of Kruger is in high relief and has a depth of about 35 mm.  The weight of the bronze plaque by itself is 1.93 Kg and, with the wooden mounting, 2.41 Kg.  The surface of the plaque has an aged lacquered finish. A grey-coloured coating has been applied to the back of the plaque but a scratch test confirms that it is solid bronze. The wooden mounting is probably made of mahogany.  Two brass bolts attach the plaque to the mounting.

This is guaranteed to be the original item and not a replica.  The name of the original owner is known and he was, in his day, a prominent numismatist. The plaque dates back to the 1938 Centenary Celebration of the Great Trek. Similar to Hern No. 436.
