Up on auction here we have a near mint condition SA Army Para Batteleur 90 chest webbing.
This is the Backpacker made version (please see the attached comparison pics).
This item is in near mint condition with no damage - although the label seems a little faded. The piece seems unissued and is the characteristic Backpacker version of the Batt 90 chest webbing with the distinct black reinforcing along the bottom of the pouches.
3 different cmpanies made items for the Batteleur 90 para webbing contract iaw; Textcraft, Three spears and Backpacker. The Batt 90 range comprised 5 items;
A Allu metal external frame (very scarce these days)
A unique nutria backpack with 8 external pockets
A chest webbing (easily ID'ed by the inclusion of a pistol holster on the left - RH draw)
A battle-jacket (webbing) based on a belt-kit layout and,
A backpack cover (known locally as a "spinnekop" after the appearence when layed out flat when looking at the straps)
