Gorgeous JOHANNES OLDERT Oil Painting in an Exquisit Frame! Johannes Oldert 1912-1984.
Johannes Oldert was born in 1912 in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He came to South Africa in 1935.
He was a painter of landscapes, seascapes, still life, figures and abstract pictures. He preferred to work in oil. He was commissioned to do a number of portrait busts in bronze, including those of the late King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1947 and Dr HF Verwoerd in 1960.
He studied one year at the Royal Academy in Rotterdam under Koos den Hartog. He also studied in London under Harold Brownword at Regent Street's Polytechnic. In South Africa he studied at the Natal Technical College under Merlyn Evans and Nils Anderson. At the Witwatersrand Technical College he studied under Eric Byrd.
In 1935 he was a member of the NSA. He lived then in Durban and later moved to Johannesburg.
He travelled and exhibited both in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Europe. In 1954 he made an extensive tour to Europe.
Having done more research on the painting, we have found that the painting has been listed on auction ranging from R5000 - R12,000 without a frame.
