Rare 1936 Schlesinger Air Race Crash Cover which was Salvaged from the wreck of Captain S.S. Halse's Aircraft at Domboshawa near Salisbury in Rhodesia. The Air Race was held in conjunction with the Empire Exhibition in Johannesburg and started from Portswood in England on the 29th of September 1936. Captain Halse in his Percival Mew Gull was well in the lead on the second day of the race when he crashed. The Cover has a green and black "Air Race" Cachet , is inscribed "Per SS. Halse" and was franked with Southern Rhodesia KGV 1d stamps when it finally arrived in Salisbury before being sent on to the Cape in South Africa. The two Southern Rhodesian stamps are Cancelled with different types of "Salisbury" Postmarks - one dated the 7th of October 1936 and the other the 12th of October 1936.
