Carnival Glass is iridised press-moulded glassware. This highly pattern-detailed and colourful domestic glassware was an inexpensive substitute for the more costly iridised art glass of the Art Nouveau period. Production began in 1905 until it tapered off after WWII during the Art Deco period. There was a revival in the 1960's and the last pieces were produced in the early 1980's. Carnival glass was sold worldwide through mail order, general stores or speciality china outlets, sales promotions and was also offered as prizes through furniture, sweet and biscuit companies. The piece on offer here is a nice extensively decorated and collectable piece made by the largest factory of carnival glass in the USA. |
Seen from the bottom. On the outside there is an 'orange tree' pattern This is also the side of the clear glass. An unusual feature of this little bowl is that it has impressed patterns on both sides. Usually the inside of carnival glass bowls are smooth.
From the side. The 6-waved crimped top edge can clearly be seen.
