A review by an A.N. Tucker for a 1965 Cambridge journal had this to say
"This small book was produced with the specific object of marking the centenary of Dr. Bleek's appoIntment as curator of the George Grey collection in the South African Public Library in Cape Town.
It is the precursor of a larger work envisaged by the author and, both in its set-up ( photo-litho offset of very uneven clarity) and content (involving some very tantalizing biographical gaps - How many children did Bleek actually have? What was the trial of his patron Bishop Colenso, about?) it gives the reader a feeling of a pre-fab as opposed to a permanent building. But the author has successfully sorted out and listed the published and unpublished works for a full bibliography and has given us an interesting commentary on his times"
