Medieval Ottoman Empire Bronze smoking pipe bowl 15th - 17th Century
Although the above bronze pipe bowl was discovered in England through metal detecting, its origin would likely have been the Ottoman Empire. Dating back somewhere between the 15th to 17th Century, the design of the bowl shows very little variation through these years and very similar shapes have been found clay as well as terracotta. The pipe stem was likely to have been fashioned from bamboo or other reed-like materials. Trading with the Middle East countries during the medieval times may explain the appearance of this pipe in a English field.
The pipe measures 3cm in length with a diameter of just over 1.5cm. Sadly, the side of the bowl has been broken but it still remains a very interesting and collectible piece of antiquity.
This is a genuine antique. Please remember the classification of an 'antique' is that it should be 100 years old, OR MORE. There are many articles being offered as 'antiques' when, clearly, they are not.
