Interesting Africana Lot!!! - Presentation Key To The Mayoress Of Grahamston 1890, Cloth Programme+

We have kept this lot together the way we received it. As it was an auction purchase we have only the information gleaned from our research.

The key, which looks like gilt and enamel, is in the form of a brooch and is engraved as follows: "June 1890, Presented to Mrs G Reynolds Lady Mayoress Of Grahamstown, The Opening Of The Cathedral Bazaar".

There is also an accompanying hand written note to this effect.

We have also found a reference, dated 1885, to the jeweller who made the brooch and would also presume that the Albany Hall was a precursor to the Albany Museum in Grahamstown.

We could find no information on the name tag "G Nicholls", but included it as we received it.

All in all a fascinating historical lot!
