ANTIQUE GALVANOMETER
Good condition
By ATM.Co LTD, Liverpool England

A galvanometer is a type of sensitive ammeter, an instrument for detecting electric current.
It is an analog electromechanical actuator that produces a rotary deflection of some type of pointer in response to electric current flowing through its coil in a magnetic field.
Galvanometers were the first instruments used to detect and measure electric currents. Sensitive galvanometers were used to detect signals from long submarine cables, and to discover the electrical activity of the heart and brain.
Initially a laboratory instrument relying on the Earth's own magnetic field to provide restoring force for the pointer, galvanometers were developed into compact, rugged, sensitive portable instruments essential to the development of electrotechnology.

The galvanometer was made by ATM.Co Ltd, Liverpool, England and is estimated to be from the mid 1900's.
It is in good condition and only has a few minor chips to the thick beveled glass cover.
It has not been tested, but the needle moves freely and the chances are good that it would still work.
It measures 18cm tall and is 13.5cm x 6.5cm at the base.
Please have a look at the images to verify condition and age.
Any questions welcome.
