LARGE & HEAVY PINK AND TRANSPARENT GLASS BOWL FROM MID 20TH CENTURY

FLYGFORS

Flygfors glassworks was founded in 1888 by Ernst Viktor Lundqvist and August Zeitz. Until 1920, its main product was window glass. When production ceased, the company was renamed Flygfors Glasbruk AB and focused on producing household glasswares and lighting fixtures. In the 1940s, its main products were glass prisms as well as household and ornamental wares. Flygfors bought the Gadderas glassworks in 1959 and Maleras in 1965. These three glassworks became the Flygfors group. However, Gadderas closed down due to lack of profitability and Maleras was sold to Krona-Bruken AB in 1974, the same year Flygfors became part of Orrefors. Flygfors glassbruk ceased production in 1979.  The most famous designer at Flygfors was Paul Kedelv, who joined in 1949 and stayed there until 1956.

I imported this bowl from Germany many moons ago and it was sold to me as Flygfors, although I am regrettably not sufficiently knowledgeable to verify this information.

It is a solid and beautiful object, absolutely great on both functionality and looks.

PLEASE NOTE

Glass from the mid-20th century is vintage glassware and age related signs of wear such as small fine surface scratches/marks should be expected. The items are hand-made, they may have imperfections such as bubbles, inclusions and lumps within the glass. Tool marks from where they have been shaped and worked in the manufacturing process can often be seen. As this indicates authenticity and forms an inherent part of the character of handmade crystal glass, these are normally not considered as faults by collectors.

* The images provided form part of the description.

* This magnificent item is an original, hand-made art glass bowl, purported to be Flyfors (and not Czech, Italian Murano, Daum, Kosta Boda, Orrefors, Swarovski, Leerdam, Val St Lambert, Whitefriars or Lalique studio glass).

* I personally sourced this beauty from Germany for my own, private collection many moons ago. Regrettably, with retirement on the horizon, I am now compelled to make space and I sincerely hope that it will bring its new owner much joy!
