CRETACEOUS CONFUCIUSORNIS BIRD FOSSIL REPRODUCTION
Stunningly crafted Archaeornis Confuciusornis bird specimen on genuine matrix
125 Million year old specimen reproduction
Confuciusornis is a genus of primitive crow-sized birds from the Early Cretaceous Yixian and Jiufotang Formations of China, dating from 125 to 120 million years ago.
Like modern birds, Confuciusornis had a toothless beak, but close relatives of modern birds such as Hesperornis and Ichthyornis were toothed, indicating that the loss of teeth occurred convergently in Confuciusornis and living birds.
It is the oldest known bird to have a beak and was named after the Chinese moral philosopher Confucius.

This a very well defined and excellently crafted piece on genuine matrix from the cretaceous period, approximately 130 million years old.
The matrix was most likely formed in the sedimentary layers of a lake or marshy area and the many fine layers can clearly be seen.
Both sides of the plate show small fragments of genuine fossils.
Total size of plate - approximately 34cm x 20cm x 10mm thick
Size of bird - 25cm x 11cm
Bird fossils are among the scarcest of small fossils and highly sought after by collectors.
This reproduction plate will make a stunning display, whether in a comprehensive collection or as a centre piece on a wall and in many regards is even better than the real thing.
It can really be described as a piece of art - Earth's ancient art - with a story to tell far superior to that of any modern artwork or artist.
