Nikon FM2N - FILM TESTED - With 50mm Lens and Flash

The Nikon FM2 is a compact professional 35mm SLR that that is renowned for its robustness, reliability and ability to withstand extreme temperatures. The FM2N ("New FM2") was the last and most desirable version, with a higher 1/250" flash sync and shutter speeds from 1" to 1/4000" plus Bulb.

This one is in excellent condition and appears to function perfectly. The film advance is smooth, the shutter release crisp, the frame counter resets and advances correctly. All shutter speeds sound right, and the light meter agrees with my professional Gossen meter. The viewfinder is bright and the depth of field preview and self timer work correctly, as do the the film rewind and film loading door latch.The flash fires when the shutter is released. The cosmetic condition is good. Some of the paint on the back has worn away, there are minor scratches on the bottom and minor finish marks  on the chrome that are visible under close inspection. There are no dings, dents, gouges or signs of abuse. The leatherette is in excellent condition and does not feel sticky.

This lovely camera is offered with a Nikkor AI 50mm f/1.8 lens, which is renowned as one of Nikon's sharpest 50mm lenses ever. The lens is in excellent condition. The glass is clear apart from minor internal dust that will not affect images, the aperture stops down symmetrically, the focus ring moves freely, the aperture click stops are positive and the aperture stop-down lever works correctly. This lens is fully compatible with the FM2N and gives automatic communication of maximum aperture using the AI mechanism, aperture direct readout in the viewfinder, open-aperture metering, depth of field preview and and automatic aperture stop-down when taking a photograph. Also included is a Fotomatic 180 electronic flash, which is fully functional and in excellent cosmetic condition, and a front lens cap.

I shot a film with this camera and lens, using the camera's internal light meter to set exposure. Everything worked properly and the negatives are well exposed, the individual frames are correctly spaced and show no signs of a light leak or fogging. The film loaded, advanced, rewound and unloaded correctly.  I have not tested the camera with a motor drive.

Since cosmetic condition is subjective, please judge for yourself from the detailed pictures, which are of the actual items for sale. Note that the "N" in front of the serial number identifies this camera as an FM2N, not the earlier "plain" FM2. The first photograph is a frame from the film that I shot with this camera and lens. I printed it with the borders so you can see there are no light leaks, which would show up as bright patches on the dark frame edges.
