CARVED JAPANESE OX BONE INRO
Hand made original Oriental piece
Inro - A small, usually ornamented box that is hung from the waist sash of a Japanese kimono and has compartments for holding small objects such as cosmetics, perfumes, or medicines.
This inro was hand carved from real ox bone, is of Oriental origin and is not a resin or plastic replica.
It is in excellent condition, no cracks or chips to be seen.
One side depicts a bird and the other what appears to be a garden scene. The tight fitting lid is held closed by an ox bone bead that slides on the string it is hung from, with a second ox bone bead situated below the inro.
The inro measures 6.5cm in length, excluding the beads, and has a diameter of 3.8cm.
Will make a nice addition to any Oriental collection and a great unusual gift!
