STUNNING, GIGANTIC & HEAVY PLUM-PURPLE MURANO ART GLASS BOWL FROM MID 20TH CENTURY
MURANO GLASS
The term ‘Murano’ defines glass produced on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy.
The history of Murano Glass began in 1291, when concerns about the risk of fire to the mainly wooden buildings of Venice led to the many glass manufacturers there being ordered to move their premises to the small island of Murano. Murano was already a busy trade port at the time and its glass artists soon became renowned for their skill in glass design - and had a monopoly on glassware production for several centuries.
The Murano glass industry boomed during the 1950s and 60s, exporting a vast amount of glassware all over the world.

Magnificent design; superb colours! Great on both functionality and looks!

PLEASE NOTE
Glass from the mid-20th century is vintage glassware and age related signs of wear such as small fine surface scratches/marks should be expected. The items are hand-made, they may have imperfections such as bubbles, inclusions and lumps within the glass. Tool marks from where they have been shaped and worked in the manufacturing process can often be seen. As this indicates authenticity and forms an inherent part of the character of handmade crystal glass, these are normally not considered as faults by collectors.
* The images provided form part of the description.
* This magnificent item is an original, hand-made Italian Murano art glass bowl (and not Czech art glass or Flyfors, Daum, Kosta Boda, Orrefors, Swarovski, Leerdam, Val St Lambert, Whitefriars or Lalique studio glass).
* I personally sourced this beauty from Germany for my own, private collection many moons ago. Regrettably, with retirement on the horizon, I am now compelled to make space and I sincerely hope that it will bring its new owner much joy! [S]
