Lance Corporal Thomas Espey answered the roll call when the South African Brigade withdrew from Delville Wood, and handed over to the relieving British troops. Of the estimated 3250 men who entered the wood on the 14th July 1916, a recorded 143 were relieved.
Lance Corporal Thomas Espey was Killed In Action, in the field, on the 7th January 1918.
He is buried in Fins New British Cemetery, Sorel-Le-Grand, Somme, France.
L/Cpl's Parchment Scroll has been trimmed previously, but is loose, enclosed in a sealed plastic sleeve.
