Motor Shield [Pre-Assembled] No Soldering Required

Product Package Content(s)

1 X AF Motor Shield (Compatible)

The Adafruit Motor Shield is a very useful shield. It contains two L293D motor drivers and one 74HC595 shift register. The shift register expands 3 pins of the Arduino to 8 pins to control the direction for the motor drivers. This is a very powerful shield that can be used to control a large amount of motors, servos and stepper motors. The Adafruit Motor Shield is able to drive 2 servo motors, and has 8 half-bridge outputs for 2 stepper motors or 4 full H-bridge DC motor outputs or 8 half-bridge drivers.

This shield comes pre-assembled, NO SOLDERING IS REQUIRED, It is ready-to-use

Features:

  • Two connections for 5V 'hobby' servos
  • Up to 4 bi-directional DC motors with individual 8-bit speed selection
  • Up to 2 stepper motors (unipolar or bipolar) with single coil, double coil, interleaved or micro-stepping.
  • Pull down resistors keep motors disabled during power-up
  • Big terminal block connectors to easily hook up wires (10-22AWG) and power
  • Arduino reset button brought up top
  • 2-pin terminal block to connect external power, for seperate logic/motor supplies

Using the Adafruit Motor Shield
To use the motor shield you must install the AF_Motor Arduino library - this will instruct the Arduino how to talk to the Adafruit Motor shield. Download the AF_Motor Arduino library and follow the steps in the installation manual. When done, you should be able to access the library examples directly from the Arduino IDE on the submenu File->Examples->AFMotor.

Also, before plugging any motor we advice to read through all the User manual sections, especially the section aboutlibrary installation and power requirements! The L293D chip can provide 0.6A per bridge (1.2A peak), however, if you need more power, consider to buy another set of L293D drivers and solder them right on top of the ones on the board (piggyback).
