About the Artist

While Dieter Berner was at high school he discovered he had a drawing talent. He then started to take oil paint classes. During his extra mural studies at the University of Pretoria he enrolled as a student of Otto Klar who introduced him to the basics of painting. Dieter did not paint much during his studies and gave up painting all together when he was in a full.time job. After his retirement he decided to revive his painting talent. Under the tutorship of Jancke Combrinck he started painting full time. Dieter paints exclusively in oil, and landscapes are his passion and forte. He is known for his colourful South African scenes. He says: "To me the success of a painting hinges on strong tonal values and colours", and it reflects in his work. Dieter lives in Johannesburg, is married and has three children and seven grandchildren
