GOLD Medallion Set in Gold Pendant with Gold Chain
Circa 1960s or 1970s gold medallion featuring four Astronauts (Schirra, Glenn, Carpenter & Cooper) on one side and science icons (Einstein, Kepler, Copernicus & Newton) on the reverse, approximately ¾" in diameter.
Space related gold medallions are highly sought after. Probably struck at the Austrian Federal Mint.
The medal is marked 90% pure gold. The setting is probably 18ct (The small ring is stamped what looks like .997) and the chain 12ct or 14ct. Total weight 10 grams and pure gold content approx. 7.7 grams. The gold chain is 435 mm long and the diameter of the medal and setting is 34mm.
