VINTAGE IVOREX WALL HANGING OF THE CAPE TOWN HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT. THIS IS A HIGHLY DECORATED, 3D IMAGE CAST IN PLASTER OF PARIS. THE ORIGINAL WAS A HAND CARVED CLAY DESIGN COPIED FROM PICTURE POSTCARDS. THE PLASTER OF PARIS MOLDS WERE THEN SKILFULLY HANDPAINTED AND FINALLY DIPPED INTO HOT PARAFFIN WAX TO GIVE THEM THEIR DISTINCTIVE "IVORY" FINISH WHICH WAS THEN BUFFED UP TO GIVE THE PICTURE A DULL SHEEN. SUBJECTS INCLUDED HISTORICAL PLACES OF INTEREST FROM THE U.K. AND OVERSEAS AND A RANGE OF SCENES FROM DICKENS, FAMOUS PEOPLE AND WELL KNOWN TOURIST DESTINATIONS. IN A GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION, LENGTH 25.3cm, WIDTH 18.7cm.
