Description

All tea comes from 1 plant, Camellia Sinensis. (Herbs come from a variety of plants). Green tea leaves are unfermented. Oolong teas are partially fermented. Black teas are fully fermented. The degree of fermentation gives teas their color and aroma. It also alters their chemical makeups.

The taste of oolong varies widely among different subvarieties. It can be sweet and fruity with honey aromas, woody and thick with roasted aromas or green and fresh with bouquet aromas. The most famous are produced in the Wuyi Mountains of northern Fujian, such as Da Hong Pao.

Oolong tea have more or less the combined qualities of black tea and green tea.

Health benefits of oolong tea include improved mental performance and alertness. These effects are directly related to the level of caffeine and the related chemicals, theophylline and theobromine, which stimulate the nervous system.

• Losing 20 lbs in 30 days by adding 2 cups of oolong tea to your daily routine is nonsense. If this were true, I would be a size 2.

Complications

Oolong tea side effects are caused its high caffeine content. Caffeine treats people differently, but some of the side effects of excess caffeine are headaches, anxiety, sleeplessness, diarrhea, heartburn, irregular heartbeat, and confusion. More serious conditions are diabetes, heart conditions, anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome and high blood pressure.

Drinking too much oolong tea can sweep out excess calcium that your body is processing. For patients with osteoporosis, this can speed up the process of bone degradation, even though other elements of oolong tea are helpful for this condition. It is best to use it as a preventative method for bone health, rather than a treatment.
