A GENTLEMAN'S 18CT WHITE GOLD WRISTWATCH, PIAGET EMPERADOR
reference no. G0A34021, automatic, the cushion-shaped brushed grey and silver dial, applied with baton hour markers, moon phase indicator with moon crater design at 6 o'clock, skeleton case back signed and hallmarked, serial no. 1026515, on a black leather Piaget strap with folding clasp, accompanied by a corrector stylus, guarantee card, manual and box, width of bezel 46,5 mm
Piaget makes the moon the star of this new complication, housed inside a generous case measuring 46.5 mm in diameter. Unique in its composition vividly evoking moon craters, this display presents the lunar phases thanks to a mask system symbolising the dance of the sun and the earth, and is endowed with a level of precision resulting in a mere one-day difference in 122 years – which explains why this moon-phase indication is referred to as “astronomical”. It lights up an extremely pure, two-tone dial bearing applied gold hour markers tapering towards the centre.
The 860P movement is a variation of the 800P movement and has retained its double barrel. It is a self-winding mechanical movement with a large astronomical moon. Positioned at 6 o'clock on the dial, it displays the moon phases in a large aperture of 12 mm – a clear Piaget design preference by the watchmaker. Controlled by an extremely fine gear train, it will lose or gain only one day in 122 years. A wheel of 135 teeth drives the rotation of the moon mask which, as the name suggests, hides and reveals a second disc symbolizing the moon. Created entirely in gold, this pellet was boiled then cooled to better represent the surface of the moon with all its craters, so that each moon used in the movements is unique. Circular Côtes de Genève, a circular-grained mainplate, bevelled bridges, blued screws and an oscillating weight engraved with the Piaget coat-of-arms add the finishing touches to this movement and are reminders of the Swiss watchmaking brand's high aesthetic values.
